Sylvia Shand - Associate

We are fortunate to have a Family Law Solicitor of Sylvia’s vast experience (with over 11 years post admission experience) to call upon in this difficult and complex area of the Law. It is a credit to Sylvia that she has come up through the ranks the hard way.

Initially Sylvia commenced her working life as a Junior in a legal office and found that working in the Law was the place she wanted to be. She then worked her way up through the ranks, before taking on a 5 year Article Clerkship (which is an apprenticeship for Lawyers) while studying Law, then graduated as a Solicitor. For that reason Sylvia knows the ins and outs of a legal practice from the ground up.

Sylvia adopts and embraces the firms philosophy to Family Law that is “to take a sensitive and caring approach to family law at the same time as giving clients the advice they need to hear rather than what they may want to hear”.

Sylvia is of a mind that wherever possible matters should be able to be resolved without the need for the matter to end up in Court and the costly litigation which comes with it.

However, if a fight needs to be had Sylvia won’t back away from it.


Passions: Outside of work Sylvia’s hands are full caring for her own young child as well as furthering her education, having recently completed her Masters Degree and has plans to undertake another Masters Degree in the near future.

Travelling, reading and movies are also high on her list of hobbies.
